ABSTRACT

PurposeThe present situation of COVID-19 pandemic has put the health-care systems under tremendous stress and stringent tests for their ability to offer expected quality of health-care services, as it decides the sustainability and growth of health-care service providers. This study aims to deliver a quantitative framework for service quality assessment in the health-care industry by classifying the health-care service quality parameters into four balanced scorecard (BSC) perspectives.Design/methodology/approachTo determine the service quality for the Indian health-care system, decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory and analytical network process are integrated in a fuzzy environment to contemplate the interaction among BSC perspectives and respective performance measures.FindingsThe results indicate "internal processes” perspective assumes the key role within BSC perspectives, while performance measures "nursing staff turnover” and "staff training” play the key roles. The results also signify that "patient satisfaction” is the most vital issue and can be strongly influenced by measures belonging to the "learning and growth” perspective. In "learning and growth” perspective, "staff training” is the most decisive criteria, very highly influencing "patient satisfaction”, highly influencing "profitability,” "change of cost per patient (both in and out patients)” and "outpatient waiting time” while moderately influencing "staff satisfaction,” "bed occupancy” and "nursing staff turnover”. Moreover, "staff training” criteria have a positive influence on "nursing staff turnover.”Originality/valueThe contributions of this study are in two folds in the domain of quantification of service quality for the health-care system. First, it delivers an assessment framework for Indian health-care service quality. Second, it demonstrates an application of the framework for a case situation and validates the proposed framework.

ABSTRACT

PurposeA digital supply chain (DSC) positively enhances circular economy (CE) practices. However, what factors and conditions lead to the implementation of DSC for transitioning toward CE is not yet clear. Therefore, this study aims at identifying and subsequently analyzing the antecedents of DSC for CE.Design/methodology/approachThe study identifies major antecedents of DSC for CE to achieve sustainability objectives through literature review and expert opinions. In this study, 19 potential antecedents of DSCs for CE are established from the literature and suggestions from industry professionals. A trapezoidal fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) approach is applied quantitatively to investigate the antecedents identified.FindingsConducted in the context of Indian automobile manufacturing industry, the findings of the study reflect that advanced information sharing arrangement, effective government policies for DSC and CE implementation and digitalizing the supply chains are the top three potential antecedents of DSC for a CE.Originality/valueIn the existing literature, few studies are specific to investigating the DSC and CE paradigm. The present study will help organizations develop a practical and integrated strategic approach that will foster DSC through improved knowledge of CE.

ABSTRACT

Many countries are implementing distance learning in response to the Covid19 pandemic. Distance learning helped learners continue their studies as schools and universities were closed due to the pandemic. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of Covid-19 lockdown on learners' academic performance. This research focuses on the challenges faced by distance learning learners. The purpose of this study is to identify barriers to distance learning. This study applies the DEMATEL (Decision Making Test and Evaluation Institute) approach to assess the barriers faced by learners in distance learning. The DEMATEL strategy is being used to identify the key factors by identifying the interrelationships between the various factors. A quantitative survey method using a structured questionnaire was carried out. The questionnaire was administered to a cohort of 54 undergraduate engineering students of third semester (2nd year) pursuing Bachelor of Technology (Information Technology) in India. This study found that motivation, social interaction, and resource costs were assessed in causal groups with RiCi scores of 0.332, 0.1774, and 0.113, respectively. Technical concerns and administrative issues are categorized in the effect group with Ri-Ci values of-0.333 and-0.287 respectively and are the most important criteria based on first and second highest Ri+Ci values of 0.646524 and 0.59817, respectively. Our findings reveal that motivation is the most important barrier in remote teaching learning. A sense of self-motivation can be induced by organizing workshops, practical sessions and grooming sessions. The study would benefit academic institutions and learners as it would help them to enrich the remote teaching learning process. © 2022 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

PurposeTo cater to the senior tourist market, it is essential to comprehend the factors motivating and deterring them from international travel post-COVID-19. This study aims to focus on senior citizens' destination choice intentions and aims to develop a model that prioritizes positive and negative factors leading to international travel destination choices. It uses push-pull factors, perceived travel risks (PTRs) and perceived travel constraints (PTCs). Design/methodology/approachDecision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and fuzzy technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (Fuzzy TOPSIS) are two multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques used to identify connections between variables and determine their relative importance in the decision-making model. FindingsDEMATEL found push and pull factors are "effects" while PTCs and PTRs are "causes" affecting senior citizens' destination choices. Push factors and PTCs have a greater impact than pull factors and PTRs. Fuzzy TOPSIS highlighted "improving health and wellness" and "self-fulfillment and spirituality" as key push factors, "health safety and security quotient" as the most important pull factor, and "interpersonal constraints" as the most critical PTC. Finally, "health risks" is the top PTR. Originality/valueThis paper adds to the tourism literature by looking at the relationship between senior tourists' motivation, PTRs and PTCs and showing how the subfactors affect their choice of destination rank. The data analysis techniques used in this study are also novel, having never been used before in senior tourism research. Finally, even though there is a lot of research on senior tourism, not much is known about how Indian senior tourists act. In light of this study's findings, practical recommendations were offered to tourism stakeholders worldwide, interested in tapping into the market of Indian outbound senior tourists or repositioning product or destination offerings to take this promising market or similar markets into account.

ABSTRACT

Developing a vaccine supply chain (VSC) is an intricate process due to product perishability issues and cross-border supply complexities. On top of that, developing a pandemic-driven VSC is more challenging due to having significant operational, infrastructural, and policy-related disruptions. From the perspective of a developing economy such as Bangladesh, handling the global COVID-19 pandemic through the proper establishment of a VSC has been disrupted by a multitude of organizational, economic, and policy barriers. This has hindered the process of establishing a resilient VSC let alone ensuring the sustainability of the supply chain (SC). Therefore, this study strives to identify the key VSC strategies and their interrelationships under four groups: Intra-organizational, Inter-organizational, Legislative, and Environmental, based on previous literature and the expert opinions of industrial practitioners and policymakers. 20 strategies are ranked, and their causal relationships are discussed using the fuzzy DEMATEL method. This study utilizes the fuzzy set theory to deal with the vagueness of human beings' perceptions, and the DEMATEL method to form a structural model to find out the cause (influencing and independent) and effect (influenced and dependent) relationships among different strategies. The outcome of this study shows that ‘developing local production facilities for vaccines', ‘creating extensive governmental policy to ensure efficient distribution of vaccines', ‘ensuring sustainable investment in vaccine manufacturing and distribution', ‘integrating advanced data analytics for robust and resilient demand prediction' and ‘promoting public-private-people partnership for sustainable investment' are the most prominent strategies. The findings provide stakeholders and policymakers with a practical framework for developing a sustainable VSC prepared for any virus outbreak, such as COVID-19, while also achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

ABSTRACT

The study models inter-relationship among key enablers that influence the growth of FinTechs that offer credit services to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). It focuses on emerging market of India, which is the world's third-largest FinTech centre. It employs Grey DEMATEL method to measure the cause-effect relationship based on the assessment given by FinTech practitioners, experts, policymakers, and investors. The results show that credit demand by SME borrowers, availability of alternate data sources, and Covid-19 are the critical enablers that exercise strong impact on FinTech system. Collaboration between FinTechs and traditional financial institutions, end-to-end financial solutions, and scalability of business operations are recognized as critical dependents that are hugely affected by others. The study recommends policymakers to foster collaborative environment, strengthen digital data landscape, and improve financial literacy to develop FinTech sector. It recommends practitioners to focus on data security and to offer end-to-end financial solutions to its SME borrowers.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic increased the risk of financial distress, bankruptcy, or both, in the airline industry. Whether airlines can survive or not during and/or after the pandemic is closely related to their decisions and actions which will enable their success by increasing their resilience. In crisis periods such as COVID-19, the decisions taken by airlines are strategically important for achieving sustainable success. Thus, it is critical to understand which factors are more important for airlines to shape their actions and make correct decisions. This paper investigates the sustainable success factors on which airlines should focus to provide resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. It provides a robust model using the interval type-2 fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (IT2FAHP) and interval type-2 fuzzy Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (IT2FDEMATEL) to identify and rank success factors. The findings indicate that financial and operational factors are extremely important to ensure resilience for airlines. In addition, the results of the study reveal that operational factors and information sharing factors have an impact on financial factors and customer satisfaction. © National Academy of Sciences: Transportation Research Board 2021.

ABSTRACT

The spread of COVID-19 in the world has changed the way of life, economy, society, learning, and work around the world. Under the background of normalization of epidemic prevention and control, how to carry out overseas Chinese education and how to affect overseas Chinese education is an important issue with scholars in China and abroad and overseas Chinese. How to effectively deal with the international situation after the outbreak of the epidemic and how to determine the future developmental direction of overseas Chinese education is an important goal and direction that researchers need to study in depth. Based on the perspective of teaching effect evaluation of blended learning mode under the background of artificial intelligence, this article takes ASEAN Phuket Thai Chinese Schools as an example, collects relevant research data through a grounded survey method, adopts a quantitative analysis method, comprehensively judges the impact of overseas Chinese education after the outbreak of the epidemic, and puts forward systematic, comprehensive, and scientific suggestions. It is hoped that the decision-making mechanism and method innovation of overseas Chinese education in response to COVID-19 will be effectively promoted, and the effective development of overseas Chinese education will be actively promoted.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has left scars on the Indian public transportation system. In order to regain its original momentum, policymakers will need to assess the barriers hindering the effectiveness of the public transportation sector. In this regard, this article analyzes the various factors affecting the public transportation sector in India and determines their interrelationships. The research is presented in three steps. First, we review the literature to identify the factors that affect the public transportation system in India. Next, we propose an integrated model of grey-DEMATEL and ANP, grey-DANP, to calculate the priority ranking and weight of the factors. The grey-DEMATEL method is used to find the interrelationships among the factors, while ANP determines the local and global weights of the factors to form a priority order. Then, we present the interrelationships in the form of influential relation maps. Furthermore, we provide a sensitivity analysis to enhance the credibility of our study. The paper reveals that governmental regulations are the most influential factors in India's public transportation system. The transportation authorities and policymakers must also focus on improving the financial stability and enhancing the customer's trust in the public transportation system. PurposeThe occurrence of COVID-19 has impacted the wide-reaching dimensions of manufacturing, materials, procurement, management, etc., and has loaded disruptions in the wide range of supply chain (SC) activities. The impact of COVID-19 has twisted supplier performance and influenced stakeholders' thinking towards selecting supplier sources and making strategic sourcing decision for convinced arrangement of construction management (CM) resources. Nowadays, suppliers are intently evaluated by stakeholders in post-COVID-19 phase to induce agile availability of CM resources. Accordingly, this paper aims to demonstrate competent CM dimensions under post COVID-19 scenario for ease managing construction projects by the stakeholders.Design/methodology/approachThe authors have implicated Grey Sets Theory along with decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) technique for understanding significant outcomes. Varieties of diverse decision aspects responsible for strategically influencing supplier sourcing decision is projected under post COVID-19 scenario for handling construction projects by the stakeholders.FindingsThis study investigated sustainable construction management dimensions (SCMD) at the stage of resource deliveries and client aspirations under post COVID-19 situation. The study demonstrated "Lead time” as the most crucial, "Product Range” as the second and "Customers dealings and relationship” as the third crucial aspect considering by the stakeholders for selecting supplier sources based on the attainment of performance score of 0.1338, 0.1273 and 0.1268, respectively. It is found that high lead time stimulates the stakeholders to divert their orders to other competent supplier sources holding a low degree of lead time as compared.Research limitations/implicationsThe present study rollovers its existence by serving critical thinking, conceptual modelling, criteria identification and evaluation under CM domain for drafting effectual strategies by the suppliers. The study investigated the impact of COVID-19 on stakeholders' decision-making and enlisted SCMD that strategically stimulated them in choosing supplier sourcing decision.Originality/valueThe present study realizes the insights of stakeholders in the post COVID-19 scenario related to the supplier sources based on performance score. The study quantified sustainable supplier attribute for construction work and practices. The study analysed the expectations of the stakeholders purchasing different varieties of construction materials from supplier sources for civil works in the post COVID-19 scenario.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected health, economic, and social factors and harmed the distribution and sales of agricultural products. It has become a crucial factor in agricultural development. The purpose of the present study is to design a sustainable development model in the agricultural sector under circuital circumstances (i.e., the COVID-19 pandemic). To achieve this goal of used a combined methodology of grounded theory, the Fuzzy Delphi Method (FDM), the Fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (FDEMATEL) method, and the Fuzzy decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory-based analytic network process (FDANP) method. The criteria of higher importance were identified using grounded theory and FDM. Then, the fuzzy DEMATEL method was carried out to identify internal relationships, effects, and dependencies of the main criteria. Finally, the weight of the main criteria of the model has been calculated with the Fuzzy DANP method. According to the results of the Fuzzy DEMATEL method, Critical circumstances (COVID-19), environmental factors, educational factors, health factors, and economic factors had the highest effects. The critical circumstances criterion (COVID-19) had the largest effect and strongest relationship with the other criteria. On the other hand, the results of the Fuzzy DANP method show that environmental factors (MC7), social factors (MC2), critical circumstances (COVID-19) (MC5), health factors (MC1), entrepreneurial factors (MC8), are the most important criteria of the sustainable development model of the agricultural sector under critical circumstances. Therefore, to move on the path of sustainable development in the agricultural sector, one should focus on the factors that have a higher influence and importance. PurposeCircular economy (CE) practices are critical to achieving sustainable development goals. However, the recent global disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted sustainable practices. The literature shows a significant research gap in analyzing factors that sustain CE practices in supply chains during a global disruption. This study fills the research gap by developing a mix-method approach to analyze factors for sustaining CE practices during a global disruption.Design/methodology/approachTo fulfill the objectives of this study, the list of factors that sustain CE practices was first identified by conducting a literature review and finalized through an expert opinion survey. The survey finalized 18 different factors for sustaining CE practices. The finalized factors were further analyzed using the grey decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method. The quantitative analysis confirmed the priority of the factors and their cause-and-effect relationships.FindingsThe results revealed that continued stakeholder pressure, retention of CE and sustainability culture, continued implementation of cleaner technology, feedback system and ongoing CE training for resilience issues are the top five factors that sustain CE practices during a global disruption. The study also revealed ten factors as belonging to the cause group and eight to the effect group.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature by exploring factors for sustaining CE practices during a global disruption. Moreover, the study's findings are important in real-life situations, as decision-makers can use the findings to formulate strategies for sustaining CE practices during future global disruptions.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to examine the current literature on paediatric COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among parents and identify key influencing factors, thus enabling targeted policy development and implementation. STUDY DESIGN: This was a systematic literature review and Decision-making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) analysis. METHODS: A review of the quantitative and qualitative literature focusing on factors influencing paediatric COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy was conducted. Searches were performed in PubMed, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink and Embase. Because of the immediacy of the topic, commentaries were included in addition to research and review articles. Influencing factors were categorised according to the Health Ecology Theory and screened using the DEMATEL method. RESULTS: A total of 44 articles were included in the study, and 44 factors influencing paediatric COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy were identified. Of these, 18 were categorised as key factors using the DEMATEL method, including a history of COVID-19 infection in parents and perceived safety of the paediatric COVID-19 vaccine. CONCLUSIONS: Policymakers and public health personnel should pay more attention to the key factors influencing paediatric COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy. The outcome of this research will benefit and motivate decision-makers to consider strategies to overcome various challenges of COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.

ABSTRACT

Digital Supply Chains (DSCs) are transforming industries across various domains. Digitalization can improve coordination, increase data collection and retention capacities, enhance funding mechanisms, and improve operational performance and resource utilization. However, DSC adoption is constrained by lack of funding, operational complexities, infrastructure issues, etc. Thus, the need emerges to explore the digitalization of the Humanitarian Supply Chain (HSC) and provide solutions that can ease the adoption of DSC. In this study, a framework is created to facilitate the digitalization process of HSC in post COVID-19 era. Nineteen related drivers are identified with the potential to digitalize the HSC. The drivers are identified from the previous literature and finalized with the assistance of HSC stakeholders. A Principal Component Analysis is carried out to discover the most pertinent drivers from the identified list of drivers. A Kappa analysis is adopted to perfect the priority map of the digitalization drivers. Further, the neutrosophic DEMATEL methodology is adopted to prioritize the potential drivers and find their dependency on each other. The results from the study indicate that the most influential drivers fall under the operational and technological categories. However, the social drivers have the potential to play a significant contribution in an effort to HSC digitalization. In addition, the study presents strategies for enhancing funds collection and data management using emerging technologies. These strategies can assist HSC decision-makers in formulating relevant policies and strategic interventions. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Change is the only constant, they say;with technology, the changes seem to be happening ever so often. The question that arises is to what extent have the changes been implemented and what are the capabilities of systems in various sectors to implement these changes. COVID-19 is a medical catastrophe, but it has come with a silver lining. It has forced everyone to adapt to using technology. People in different sectors were forced to ensure that they learnt the new ways of working. Work from home became the norm, which in turn led to the imperative nature of connectivity through the online platforms. Smart cities which were only in the planning and policy development stage suddenly saw a "jugaad" technology playing a role in it. This "jugaad" technology will work for the interim period and will most definitely initiate the start of complete connectedness between individuals and companies and in turn developing smart cities. In this chapter, the aim is to focus on understanding the barriers of use of technology in the education sector. There are many stakeholders which can be considered in the education sector. It is impossible to consider all dimensions in one study. Our aim is to determine the barriers faced by teacher trainers while training in the online mode. We use a multicriteria decision making tool DEMATEL to further establish the cause-andeffect group between the criteria. PurposeThe paper aims to identify the most supply chain resilient company suitable for the customized preferences of partner firms in the context of the Chinese supply chain framework during the COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachA hybrid multicriteria model, i.e. Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), was used to assign weights to each criterion, which was subsequently analyzed by three approaches, namely Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), Fuzzy DEMATEL (Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory), and Evaluation Based on Distance from Average Solution (EDA), to rank the top ten companies in descending order of supply chain resilience. Further, sensitivity analysis is performed to identify the consistency in ranking with variation in weights. The rankings are validated by a novel Ensemble Ranking algorithm and by supply chain domain experts.FindingsThe rankings suggest the company "China Energy Construction Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd” is the most feasible and resilient company, presenting interesting findings to partner firms, and Bosch is the least reliable supply chain company of the ten firms considered, thus presenting interesting findings to partner companies.Practical implications"Crisis Management Beforehand” is most critical in the current pandemic scenario. This implies that companies need to first prioritize taking proactive steps in crisis management followed by the need to minimize the "Expected impact of pandemic.” Performance factors also need to be regulated (sales, supply chain rank and financial performance) to maintain the company's overall reputation. Considering the consistent performance of the China Energy Construction Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., it is recommended as the most reliable supply chain firm to forge strategic partnerships with other supply chain stakeholders like suppliers and customers. On the other hand, Bosch is not recommended as a supply chain reliable company and needs to improve its crisis management capabilities to minimize the pandemic impact.Originality/valueThe paper aims to identify the most supply chain resilient company suitable for the customized preferences of partner firms in the context of the Chinese supply chain framework during the COVID-19 pandemic. The rankings suggest the company "China Energy Construction Group Tianjin Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd” is the most feasible and resilient company, presenting interesting findings to partner firms, and Bosch is the least reliable supply chain company of the ten firms considered, thus presenting interesting findings to partner companies.

To combat the COVID-19 pandemic, the scientific community has progressed from discovering antivirals to the large-scale production of vaccines. Mass vaccination programs to curb the COVID-19 pandemic started in many parts of the world at the beginning of 2021. Mass vaccination aims to exit from health emergencies by vaccinating all the population with the required dose in the shortest possible time. The production rate has been boosted, and many new production facilities have been opened to fulfill worldwide demand. The objective of the vaccination program is to maximize the medical benefit with the lowest cost and equitable distribution of vaccines worldwide. However, the environmental impact of this long-run immunization program has received very little attention. This study explores the environmental impact of the vaccine supply chain (VSC) and analyzes the mitigation strategies to minimize it without affecting the medical, economic, and social benefits of vaccination. The fuzzy DEMATEL technique has been used to prioritize the mitigation techniques and find cause and effect relations among them. The finding of studies shows that the "optimal vial design” is most important, and "vaccine awareness and education” is the most impactful strategy to tackle the environmental impact of VSC. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted global supply chain managers to reassess their operations. Developing a green supply chain requires successfully integrating environmental responsibility principles and benchmarks into supply chain management practices. In the past, there have been few studies on the most effective strategies for reducing the environmental impact of supply chains and improving their sustainability. This study used the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method to construct a structural model evaluation system of the green supply chain management (GSCM) to evaluate the interdependent relationships among dimensions and criteria. A GSCM evaluation system was created after using the DEMATEL-based ANP (DANP) to convert the GSCM evaluation indicators and impact factors into degrees of importance. This study explores the obstacles and challenges that organizations face when implementing GSCM practices and how these challenges can be overcome. The results found that organizational changes had the most significant impact, given that they would also improve the other three dimensions. Among the 16 evaluation criteria, resource allocation and market expansion optimization were the most important. Based on these findings, the study proposed specific improvement strategies that corporations and other stakeholders could use to adopt GSCM practices. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

PurposeMany organizations failed to generate profits after investing considerable money and time in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. This study, therefore, sought to identify the challenges encountered by pharmaceutical firms during the post-implementation of ERP systems.Design/methodology/approachA case-based study followed by general survey-based research was carried out in pharmaceutical firms to determine the critical post-implementation challenges of ERP systems. DANP (DEMATEL-based ANP) and Wilcoxon Signed Rank test were used to find the causal/critical challenges and rank them.FindingsAfter analyzing a pharmaceutical case company and conducting a general survey among pharmaceutical companies, statistical analysis was performed to identify the most significant challenges, namely, "Inefficient troubleshooting mechanism”, "Lack of training during post-implementation stage” and "Difficulty in identifying invalid data when entered into the ERP system”. Furthermore, organization-wide challenges are considered to be the most important.Practical implicationsThe paper identifies the challenges faced during the post-implementation phase of ERP systems. This work brings out the issues with ERP systems' performance after their implementation, which is related to the quality of the ERP systems. This work will support the risk identification and mitigation during ERP implementation to eradicate the problems after its implementation. This work may trigger the ERP system developers to improve its features and performance for better manufacturing and supply chain management system in pharmaceutical firms.Originality/valueThis study is uniquely conducted in pharmaceutical firms to study the benefits and challenges of adopted ERP systems. A pilot case study served as the foundation for the generalizability of other pharmaceutical firms' findings through a non-parametric test.

ABSTRACT

PurposeThe present study aims to identify and evaluate the socioeconomic barriers to effective COVID-19 pandemic transmission control in Pakistan.Design/methodology/approachThe study identifies multiple socio-economic barriers through an extensive literature review. The preliminary analysis unveiled 15 socio-economic barriers. Nine experts were contacted to collect data and finalize the most prominent barriers to COVID-19 transmission control using the DELPHI method. The Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method was used to process and interpret the data collected and a cause–effect relationship was established among the barriers.FindingsThe finalized barriers to effective COVID-19 pandemic transmission control were evaluated using DEMATEL which grouped criteria into two grouped criteria – cause and effect. The DEMATEL analysis shows that poor safety culture, lack of strategy and goal setting, lack of resources, late realization and recognition of the pandemic problem and lack of expertise and capacity in disaster and risk management fall into the cause group. These factors are critical as they directly affect the remaining barriers identified in the study.Originality/valueDespite the collective global efforts, the national economies have been struggling to completely control COVID-19 transmission control. Pakistan's economy has been facing the third wave of the pandemic. It is mandatory to identify the barriers and evaluate them to develop a comprehensive strategy ensuring that there would be no fourth wave. The study identifies and evaluates the barriers to COVID-19 transmission control in Pakistan using the integrated DELPHI-DEMATEL framework. The findings would help the government, experts and strategists to develop a comprehensive disaster and risk management strategy.
